LAMORINDA: Storm No Deterrent To Burglars, Gunmen

Burglars, thieves, gunmen at work during storm.

Burglars, car thieves, and at least one pair of armed gunmen were hard at work in Lamorinda during the height of Friday’s storm. And locals are still counting their losses as skies clear.

While most area residents were either at work or huddled around hearth at home Friday, the criminally inclined were also hard at work and apparently willing to go out in the weather to get what they wanted.

Lafayette police reported at least two residential burglaries, both off of Reliez Valley Road and one at Hermosa Way and the other Green Valley Court. NEWS24-680 is in touch with Lafayette PD and has asked for information on these cases and we will update this story with specifics when and where possible.

In Moraga, thieves were either taking cars or rifling through them for various items, taking a car from its driveway on Silvia Court Thursday. We’re also hearing of neighbors waking up to find their “outside cars” had been broken into and rifled. We’ll wait for those complaints to make it onto the police blotter before compiling them and reporting.

And lastly, Orinda police report that two armed men, described only as one black and one Hispanic, young, and apparently unshaven, approached the Orinda Shell Auto Care at 9 Orinda Way around 10:20 p.m. Friday, brandished their weapons and made off with a small amount of cash.

Several readers aboard inbound BART trains wrote NEWS24 to ask why their trains sailed past Orinda station – and it was because Orinda police and other local agencies were searching one outbound train and the station parking lot for the suspects. Both men are still at large, according to police.
