Once again, it appears, a stealthy purse raider has ruined a nice lunch out. Officers say the latest victim felt a slight nudge before she discovered her wallet was gone and her money draining from her account before dessert arrived.
Lafayette police say that on Saturday at about 11:30 a.m., a woman went to have lunch at a local restaurant – hanging her purse on the back of her chair and confirming that her wallet was inside when she sat down.
While dining, the victim told officers, her chair was jostled by someone seated behind her. After finishing her meal, she went to get her purse and noticed it felt light. She then discovered that her wallet was missing, notifying the restaurant and reporting the theft to Lafayette PD.
Between the time of her arrival at the restaurant and the time she left, the woman’s credit card was used at a local bank to take a hefty $2,000 cash advance and to make purchases at several retailers. The photo topping this story and in our gallery were captured at a retailer and show an unidentified woman who made a purchase with a credit card belonging to the victim.
Detectives are looking for help in identifying the person in the photographs.
