A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was injured in an apparent chain reaction accident on northbound Interstate 680 at Crow Canyon in San Ramon Thursday. The officer was evacuated from the scene by REACH life flight helicopter. His injuries were not considered life threatening.
Police and firefighters responded to the accident at 5:22 p.m. Thursday, at the apex of the evening commute. Initial reports were that the officer made contact with a car, forching a crash. The officer was not identified.
The accident quickly turned I-680 into a parking lot, may have triggered another accident in the southbound lanes at about the same time, and was still not completely clear when a third, unrelated accident was reported a little further north on I-680 near Alcosta Blvd.
All in all a busy night for law enforcement and first responders. We’ll have additional information when it becomes available.
