A nicked gas line at a construction project at Livorna and Wilson roads in Alamo Wednesday prompted a shelter-in-place order for a nearby school, evacuations from surrounding neighborhoods and a massive traffic tie-up as Livorna Road was closed for most of the morning.
A construction crew reported the incident shortly after nicking a 4-inch gas line 9 a.m. Wednesday and local police and fire, noting the heavy smell of natural gas in the area, promptly closed off the area and called for a shelter-in-place order for nearby Alamo Elementary School. The school took immediate protective measures as police closed Livorna at Highway 680 and precautionary evacuations of homes to the south and east of the leak were effected, with the occupants of three homes on Pleasant Knoll Court asked to evacuate until repairs could be made.
No one was hurt during the four hour-long incident though some tempers were frayed due to road closures and the evacuations.
