Pedestrian struck on Walnut Avenue Saturday night.

A 24-year-old Pittsburg woman was killed late Sunday after she apparently abandoned her stalled car on southbound I-680 at Rudgear, called a co-worker for assistance and then, for reasons unknown, stepped into traffic.

Police said Diana Quezada-Martinez experienced car trouble on the southbound I-680 on ramp from Rudgear Road shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday. The woman apparently made a cell phone call to a friend asking for help and then, for reasons unknown, somehow walked into traffic and was struck and killed by the driver of a passing Mercedes-Benz.

Investigators said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a part in the accident. The driver of the Mercedes reportedly stopped immediately after the collision and is cooperating with investigators.
