Max Luckhurst, the Campolindo baseball coach with the football coach name, has announced his retirement as head coach for the Cougars after a successful 16 years working on behalf of the school’s baseball program.
Luckhurst submitted his resignation late last week, prompting speculation of a possible successor able and willing to step into his shoes and 191-67-4 combined 10-season record. He leaves the field to carry on with his work in the special education department at Campo.
The coach, who claimed four consecutive North Coast Section Division II pennants in the latter years of his tenure, said merely it was “time” to leave the field after 14 years leading his Cougars onto the diamond as head coach. NEWS24-680 has heard of some names mentioned as a possible successor to carry on Luckhurst’s legacy but, for now, his fans are content with finding a way to salute him before the search for a new coach begins in earnest.
