Concert promoter Eric “E World” Johnson of Orinda was apparently gunned down during an argument with a bodyguard for platinum-selling rapper Young Jeezy during a hip hop concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View on Friday night.
Sources say Johnson, 38, was backstage talking to a bodyguard working for Young Jeezy about an after party Johnson had lined up for the rapper in San Jose when the escort drew a weapon and shot Johnson five times in an apparent dispute about “up front money” for the bash.
The Atlanta-based rapper, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, was taken into custody along with five other people Sunday as investigators served a search warrant on the touring entourage at the Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine. The five were taken to to the Orange County jail with Jenkins/Jeezy arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal firearms, which allegedly included an assault rifle.
The shooting occurred during the “Under the Influence of Music” concert at Shoreline, an event featuring Jeezy and rapper Wiz Khalifa. Investigators are still seeking a suspect they describe as a black man in his 20s with short hair, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8, wearing a black shirt, a red baseball cap and possibly white pants. The suspected weapon in the shooting was a black pistol with a “large magazine.”
