Two San Ramon Valley firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling a structure fire in Alamo Monday. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The pair were part of a large San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District response to reports of fire at a home under construction at 68 Las Quebradas Lane. Firefighters, working in 100 degree temperatures, effected a search of the residence as flames spread from a side yard into the home and attic space. No one was found inside the home but firefighters found two of their number suffering from heat exhaustion. Both were later reported in good condition and returned to duty.
Firefighters were called to the residence shortly after 1 p.m. and moved aggressively to search the home and knock down the blaze. They were able to control the fire within 30 minutes.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
