Walnut Creek police closed Ygnacio Valley Road east of Oak Grove Road after a man in a mask riding in a Honda sedan opened fire on another car – wounding two people inside – Sunday night.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as a man in a black ski mask riding in the rear passenger seat of a light colored Honda sedan fired several rounds at another vehicle at about 7:51 p.m. Sunday. Initial reports were that the gunman, described as a black male in his early to mid-20s, medium build, 6′ to 6′ 2″ tall and dressed in t-shirt and blue jeans, opened fire on the occupants of a white, four door Mercedes with a semi-automatic pistol as the two cars were traveling west on Ygnacio Valley Road and approaching the stop light at Oak Grove.
Witnesses said the car the gunman was in pulled alongside the targeted Mercedes and several shots were fired into the victim’s front passenger window. The gunman then exited the car, police said, and fired several more times into the victim’s car, firing through the closed passenger side window and striking both the driver and a front seat passenger.
The two victims, described as an adult female driver and an adult male passenger, had just left the KBLX Stone Soul Concert at the Concord Pavilion when they were fired upon, police said.
Officers said the Honda fled north onto Oak Grove Road after the shooting, with the two wounded passengers taken to John Muir Hospital for treatment. A Walnut Creek police spokesman said the male victim was listed in critical condition while the female driver is reportedly recovering from less serious wounds.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact the Walnut Creek police department at 925 943-5844.
