Suspected burglar bagged in Walnut Creek overnight.

Walnut Creek police arrested a Concord man they say was attempting to break into a local gym early Friday. Juan Rodriguez, 42, was arrested in connection with the crime.

A release issued by Walnut Creek police early Friday outlined events as police were called to The Bar Method, a local gym at 1946-A Mt. Diablo Blvd, at 1:28 a.m. Friday and spotted a figure running from the scene. Police say they arrived in less than a minute, saw the man and established a perimeter. The suspect initially eluded capture, police said, but was later spotted by an alert officer who remained in the area.

The suspect, identified as Rodriguez, was allegedly found to be in possession of stolen property and positively identified as being responsible for two separate commercial burglaries to the same business, according to police. Officers arrested Rodriguez for commercial burglary, possession of stolen property and an unrelated warrant. He was taken to the Martinez Detention Facility and booked on those charges.

Anyone with information on this or any other criminal activity in the city is encouraged to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.
