Teen In Danville Crash Dies In Hospital

Driver of stolen car crashes in Danville.The Concord teenager behind the wheel of a stolen car that led officers from several local jurisdictions on a wild, 100-mph chase south on Interstate 680 May 6 has died of injuries sustained when the 2002 Volkswagen GTI crashed in Danville.

Police said Michael Holden, 19, of Concord stole the Volkswagen in Walnut Creek Tuesday evening and was driving the car recklessly and without benefit of headlamps when he was spotted by a Concord police sergeant on routine patrol near Monument Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Several police cars tailed the fleeing GTI south on I-680 and were behind it when Holden crashed the car into a guardrail north of the El Cerro Boulevard exit, ripped through some trees and then rolled down an embankment.

Holden was found unconscious inside the cars when officers approached. He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died three days later, police reported.
