Danville police search for and find an at-risk woman.

Danville police, supported in the air by a California Highway Patrol helicopter, searched for and located a local woman who had threatened to harm herself late Wednesday – eventually locating her in a field off Diablo Scenic Boulevard.

Using Athenian School as their command center, police fanned out to search the remote ridge lands for sign of the woman at around 8 p.m. Wednesday after she reportedly informed people close to her that she might harm herself. A CHP helicopter joined the search effort, which included officers on foot and a canine tracking team and the unidentified woman was found, seriously wounded from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, in a field near the 2400 block of Diablo Scenic Boulevard.

She was taken to John Muir Medical Center, where she was listed Wednesday night in critical condition.
