A weekend rainstorm brought some relief to drought weary locals, headaches for travelers caught out on rain-slickened roadways and candlelit dinners for 24-680 residents who lost power to falling trees. Still, rain is rain.
But then there were the rockslides. While most everyone rejoiced at the first steady precipitation we’ve seen in many months, the insistent rainfall could be blamed for a series of collisions on local highways, sporadic power outages as old growth trees finally gave in and fell over – pulling power and communications wires down with them, and boulders on local roads.

News24-680 readers sent in pictures of newly fallen lumber along with admonitions about falling rocks and hydroplaning conditions on local freeways. Favorite backroads between Moraga and Oakland were rendered briefly impassable by fallen tree limbs or ice chest-sized boulders dislodged by the rain. Rocks were brought down and sent lumbering onto Pinehurst Road in Canyon and a tree fell across El Pintado Road in Danville, bringing power lines down with it.
A series of spin outs involving as many as five cars was reported on southbound I-680 in Danville and San Ramon. No injuries were reported. If you have any storm-related pictures, send them to us at: news@news24-680.com and we’ll get ’em up!
