Pedestrian struck on Walnut Avenue Saturday night.

Walnut Creek police say drugs and or alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal accident involving a 28-year-old Concord woman on Ygnacio Valley Road Thursday night.

Sgt. Sean Conley reported that a silver Chevy pick-up was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Drive and Walnut Blvd. at 11:36 p.m. when the driver – identified by the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office as Kellie Reed, 28, of Concord – struck a tree in the center median of the 800 block of Ygnacio Valley Road. Reed was taken to John Muir Hospital but died of her injuries.

Walnut Creek Police Sgt. Joe Donleavy estimated Reed’s speed at the time of the crash at around 40mph. He said investigators are attempting to determine where Reed had been prior to the crash and that they assume she was trying to make it home when she lost control of the truck.

Officers believe drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash but did not say why. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact Sgt. Joe Donleavy or Officer Sean Dexter at the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.
