Moraga police are investigating two car crashes involving teen drivers and alcohol near Moraga Road and Corliss Friday night.

Neighbors told News24-680 that teens in two cars were “drag racing” in the area around 9:38 p.m. that evening when the operators of both vehicles lost control and crashed. Moraga Police Chief Bob Priebe said “two separate collisions occurred on Corliss and one kid stayed and one fled. The one that stayed was arrested for DUI and released to parents.”

Priebe identified the drivers only as “Moraga juveniles, aged 17.” He declined to confirm the reports of racing prior to the crashes, saying the incident is under investigation, but police reports indicate that two cars – a beige 1986 Mercedes Benze 300E and a red 1999 Toyota Corrolla – were involved in a collision at the location given.

The lone driver who waited for police was not injured, police and fire officials said. A second youth contacted police the following morning and gave a statement to officers. Reports that other youths were in the cars at the time of their collision could not be substantiated.
