Two cars tangling in Bore 4 of the Caldecott Tunnel snarled the first day of “Back to Work Week” for many motorists Monday. Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred in the tunnel at 8:15 a.m.
The crash promptly gridlocked traffic in the westbound direction as California Highway Patrol officers and apparatus from the Moraga-Orinda Fire and Contra Costa County Fire districts descend on the scene to assist.
Drivers of the two cars involved in the crash ended up driving them out of the tunnel on their own. They are receiving treatment at the scene. Traffic is slowly untangling but it will be some time before it is flowing freely again (8:32 am.).
