The periodic scourge of door-to-door solicitors continues.

Two Concord teens were arrested Monday after an employee at a nearby business reported seeing them shining flashlights into cars at the Walnut Creek Holiday Inn at 2730 N. Main St. One of the alleged thieves, a 17-year-old, did not surrender willingly to police.

Sergeant Mike Sugrue, in a release issued by Walnut Creek police Tuesday morning, said officers received a call of suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn at 11:15 p.m. Monday after an employee spotted them allegedly looking into cars. Police arrived “in seconds,” according to the release, and took Eduardo Diaz Martinez, 19, of Concord into custody without incident. A 17-year-old juvenile with a last known address in Concord ran from officers and jumped two barbed wire fences into a nearby business, police said. A perimeter was set up and the male juvenile subject was located hiding underneath a storage area by a police canine team, Sugrue reported.

Martinez and his juvenile companion were both found to be in possession of stolen property and burglary tools, according to police. Martinez was booked at the county jail in Martinez and the male juvenile was booked at the juvenile hall in Martinez for a variety of charges ranging from possession of stolen property to resisting arrest.

Police said they located two cars at the Holiday Inn that had been broken into. Property from those two vehicles was located by officers and returned to their owners. It is unknown if the suspects committed other thefts/burglaries prior to being seen, so residents in the area are encouraged to call WCPD, should they find their cars broken into. Reports can be made by calling WCPD at (925) 943-5844.
