A 53-year-old Danville woman has died of injuries suffered after she was struck by a car while walking on Camino Tassajara Monday evening. Diana Gregory died at a local hospital.
Police Chief Steve Simpkins said the accident occurred around 9 p.m. Monday when a car driven by Samuel Herrick, 50, of Danville struck Gregory as she was walking in the roadway near Tassajara Lane. Gregory was critically injured and taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek – where she died Tuesday.
Herrick remained at the scene and, after further investigation by police, was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence. He has since posted $50,000 bail.
Danville police sources said the investigation into the accident is ongoing and that it would be weeks before a case is brought to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. There was no immediate word on what Gregory’s death would mean in relation to any possible future charges against Herrick.
