A devil of a ride awaits those willing to take up the challenge. An estimated 1000 cycling enthusiasts will ride up Mt. Diablo as part of the 42nd Annual Mount Diablo Challenge on Sun., Oct. 6. The race starts at 8:30 a.m., from the Athenian School, 2100 Alameda Diablo, Danville.
Riders will compete for prizes during a heart-pounding spin along either the 11.2 mile timed ride climbing 3,249 feet to Mount Diablo’s summit or the 6.5 mile ride with a 1,578 elevation gain. A family-friendly summit party with food and beverage caps off the day.
Registration for the full course is $75 per person before Sept. 16 and $90 per person after. The half course is $45 per person before Sept. 16 and $60 per person after. Proceeds benefit Save Mount Diablo in its mission to preserve, defend and restore the Diablo wilderness for wildlife and people to enjoy.
