Firefighters, politicians, and townspeople turned up at the Lafayette Veteran’s Hall Tuesday to weigh in on what many seem to feel is the sad state of local fire coverage in the area.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Chief Daryl Louder, set to retire in October after a rough year for his district, appeared with district staff and his successor, Jeff Carman, who will be coming to ConFire from a position as assistant chief with the Roseville Fire Department. Several people – including more than one firefighter – spoke out about the problems the district is facing and the future look and feel of fire protection services in Contra Costa County.
