Dr. James Donahue was named president of Saint Mary’s College in Moraga during a brief ceremony on the chapel lawn Tuesday. Donahue, currently president of the Graduate Theological Union, succeeds Brother Ronald Gallagher. His term becomes effective July 1, 2013.
“It’s an absolute honor and blessing to be named the 29th president of Saint Mary’s College,” Donahue told the gathering after a traditional ringing of the Korth Tower bell and rendition of “Bells of Saint Mary’s” – delivered by sophomore Angelica Whaley. “I promise that I will dedicate myself with all that I have to make Saint Mary’s College the best academic institution it can be.”
Brother Ron Gallagher, who has been at the helm for Saint Mary’s since 2005 and who announced last year he would be handing off leadership responsibilities for the school due to health concerns, told News24/680 he plans to travel and “re-tool” in the months to come.
