Moraga Police Chief Robert Priebe confirmed accounts by numerous News24/680 readers of a police search and possible arrest near Campolindo High School Thursday. Priebe confirmed that officers were searching for a suspected drug dealer who eluded officers and escaped into the neighborhood behind the school.
Priebe said a Campolindo student was spotted conducting a suspected drug sale on campus when he was spotted by school officials. They attempted to detain him and search his car when he ran off, hiding in the Cabana Club area.
“He supposedly threw his car keys into (the) bushes to prevent anyone from entering his car,” Priebe wrote. A Concord K-9 unit was called in to help with the search, alerting to the presence of drugs in the car, according to Priebe.
The student eventually returned to campus, where he was detained.
His car was eventually searched and 34.4 grams of marijuana and a marijuana muffin was found. The student was released to a parent after cooperating with the investigation and the case is being forwarded to the DA for charging, Priebe said.
